Mesh ain’t just mesh. Expanded metal is a very effective product in many applications and can be manufactured from a variety of materials. It’s strength comes from the louvre formed at each opening during the manufacturing process. That is why, when we form our products we maintain the material shape in order to take advantage of the strength, flow rate of liquid and air, oxidisation properties and thermal transfer for long term durability. Material thickness is critical for ember protection and vermin proofing as both rely on the integral strengh of the material to perform at their best, and last year after year.

By comparison, if you look at the imported materials being sold as expanded aluminium, they have taken already very thin expanded mesh, expanded it further, flattened it , expanded it again and then flattened it again so all of the benefits of using expanded metal are lost. You might as well just use woven wire.
